Staff and residents at the award-winning Angela Court Nursing Home celebrated the Chinese New Year by enjoying home-made Chinese food and playing a Chinese quiz.
The elderly residents at the 37 bed home in Tipton St John celebrated the year of the Rabbit with a Chinese inspired lunch of Sweet and Sour turkey with boiled rice and banana fritters for desert.
After their lunch dedicated staff spent the afternoon playing games with the residents, including a Chinese puzzle and quiz.
They were then treated to a special dinner, which included a starter of noodle soup, spring rolls and duck rolls, Chinese selection and prawn crackers – all made by the home’s chef.
The nursing home was decorated with a Chinese dragon, home-made lanterns and the Chinese horoscope to keep in with the celebrations.
Traditionally, the celebrations for the Chinese New Year last up to fifteen days.
During these days, the Chinese wish each other by saying “Kung Hei Fat Choy” which means having a great fortune, or “Kung Hall Sun Hei”, which implies happy New Year.
Married couples give red envelopes with lucky money to their kids or relatives of their younger generations instead of giving presents. The money can be used to buy holiday treats.
