Staff and residents at the award-winning Heanton Nursing Home celebrated the beginning of Lent this week with plenty of pancake treats.
Traditionally, pancakes were eaten on Shrove Tuesday as a means of using up eggs and butter before the Lenten fast.
At the 52 -bed Care Village, in Barnstaple, they have become an eagerly anticipated part of the home’s events calendar.
After lunch residents enjoyed pancakes, which were made by the home’s chef before dressing them with sugar and lemon.
Home Manager Jo Rutherford told us: “We pride ourselves on our pro-active calendar of events and activities, so for Lent we’re thinking of taking up new hobbies with the residents rather than giving things up.
“We are always open to suggestions from the local community so if anyone has a craft or hobby they think our residents would enjoy, please get in touch.”
