Staff, residents and their families at the award-winning Heanton Nursing Home are looking forward to their first ever Pet Show.
Relatives and friends of Heanton have been invited to bring their pets to the home to showcase them and allow the residents to pet them during the afternoon show which is taking place on Thursday August 25th.
Throughout the show endless cups of tea and home-baked cakes, made especially by the Nursing Home’s award-winning chef, will be handed out as the residents vote on their favourite pets.
Fact cards will also be handed out on certain types of common pets care/ behaviours to discuss while they are being shown off to encourage some reminiscence from the residents who have dementia.
Nursing Home manager, Jo Rutherford, told us: “We are really excited about the Heanton Pet Show as our residents respond very well to seeing and playing with animals. It is very therapeutic for them and they really enjoy it.
“I will be bringing my two cats along for the show – Suki, a well travelled Persian who flew in from Saudi Arabia via France and a regular British moggie named Merlyn.
“We have already had a few people sign up to bring their beloved pets in for a visit and hope to get more people interested as well.”
Rosettes and trophies will be handed to the winning animals of The Heanton Pet show as well as gifts for the winner’s owners.
