Nursing Home’s gift to theatre

Kind-hearted staff at the award-winning Heanton Nursing Home near Braunton has donated a brand new wheelchair for use by customers at the Queen’s Theatre in Barnstaple.

The unusual connection came about after Kay Trimm, box office administrator at North Devon Theatres, asked husband Malcolm – who works at the innovative PSP Healthcare home – for an old chair they could refurbish for the use at the theatre.

Care Home Manager, Jo Rutherford, put the request to head office which instead kindly offered to donate a new one.

A permanent wheelchair has been needed at the Queen’s Theatre for sometime to assist those with limited mobility getting to their seats and also in the event of a medical emergency at the premises.

Erik Muzzard, Commercial and Facilities Manager, said North Devon Theatres was very grateful to Heanton Nursing Home for its generous donation.

Operations Director Wayne Shermon told us: “As an organisation we pride ourselves on our People Supporting people motto which is why we were more than happy to donate the brand new wheelchair to the theatre.

“It is important to us that we not only support our residents, their families and our staff but also the local community.

“The Queen’s Theatre staff were extremely pleased with our donation and we are happy to have helped.”
