Residents, staff and visitors celebrating St David’s Day at the award-winning Gibraltar Care Village are hoping to raise a significant amount of cash in one afternoon for the St David’s Foundation.
The fun filled day at the new £10 million development, which was decorated with Welsh bunting and daffodils, began with a selection of bara brith and welsh cakes for the residents.
Throughout the afternoon residents took part in a hunt the leek competition and watched a Welsh film in the cinema room where they were treated popcorn and choc ices.
Staff and residents also enjoyed a lunch of leek soup at their daffodil decorated tables along with a drink of shandy.
A raffle was also held to help raise much-needed funds for the Care Village’s chosen charity St David’s Hospice Foundation.
Event organiser, Wendy Watkins, said: “Everyone had a great time celebrating St David’s Day at the village.
“It is really important to us to involve our residents in such important and fun-loving events. Everyone made a huge effort to help raise money for our chosen charity and we look forward to donating all the proceeds made from the day.”
Saint David’s Day is the feast day of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, and falls on 1st March each year.
The date of 1st March was chosen in remembrance of the death of Saint David on that day in 589, and has been celebrated by followers since then.
The date was declared a national day of celebration within Wales in the 18th century.
